Please consider donating to the Cates Scholarship Fund!

Having to cancel the MLA 2020 Conference was difficult on many levels, but it is particularly problematic for the MLA Cates Scholarship Fund. The annual Cates fundraising event and silent auction at the MLA Conference is how we raise money for Cates Scholarships for librarians—usually about $4,000 per conference. With this in mind, the Cates Committee is asking those who would have donated items for the silent auction or bought raffle tickets, or purchased tickets for the Cates Book Bingo event, to consider making a donation to the Cates Scholarship fund.

As a little bonus and a way of saying thank you, everyone who makes a donation of $10 or more to the Cates Scholarship Fund will be entered into a drawing for FIVE, yes, five, amazing items that would have been featured in the Cates Silent Auction this year. We have a gorgeous quilt created by Marje Doyle (the cat quilt is approx. 65″x 75″ and contains many shades and hues of purple) and we have four beautiful wood items crafted by Doug Kramer—a child’s rocker, a shelf, and two different types of wine holders. Donate to Cates and you’ll have a chance to win these amazing items! (For every $10 you contribute, you receive one chance to win. Contribute $50 you get five chances, etc.).
