Welcome to beautiful Bozeman and our 2018 MLA Conference! I am so very excited about our theme for this year’s conference as it encompasses so many integral aspects of my own life: Big skies, library highs, and legal ties. Living in Montana and wearing two hats as a librarian and a lawyer has meshed fairly well for me in my career and I think some of that is because these two fields, law and library, are surprisingly inter-related. Both professions are about researching, ferreting out information, and conveying it in the best possible manner to those who are seeking that information. Both professions are really about customer relations and being a good listener. And wanting to help others. I hope you enjoy the amazing programs we have planned for you at the 2018 conference. We have programs with legal content for librarians (open meeting laws, copyright, library laws, legal forms, etc.) and programs with amazing library content for librarians allowing us to share our knowledge and best practices with each other (public libraries engaging with community groups, social media strategies, library evaluation, etc.). There are receptions (thank you Bozeman Public!), awards, division gatherings, tours, the Cates silent auction and event, the MLA business meeting, an author lunch, and so much more at this year’s event. A little something for everyone. And we get to hang out with each other! That’s the best part! Thank you so much to conference planners Debbi and Doug and local arrangements geniuses Lois Dissly, Pam Henley, and Rachelle McLain for putting together such a great conference We are so excited to invite you to join us in Bozeman. Librarians and lawyers unite!
