TITLE: Chairperson, Professional Development Committee

VISION:  

MISSION STATEMENT: To enhance library service to Montanans by ensuring that library personnel and trustees receive high quality continuing education opportunities

GOALS & OBJECTIVES: 

Goal 1 To promote MLA grants to the Association's membership 

Objective 1 Use FOCUS, Wired-Mt and other formats to inform MLA members about the grants, and encourage interested persons to apply.

Goal 2 Increase awareness of CE opportunities available to library personnel and trustees

Objective 1 List upcoming CE workshops on the MLA homepage 
Objective 2 Post a list or pre-approved videos that could be used for CE credits on the MLA homepage

Goal 3 Increase awareness of the importance of CE 

Objective 1 On the MLA homepage or link to the Montana State Library homepage, post information about the Voluntary Certification Program

Goal 4 Evaluate the CE opportunities provided

Objective 1 Work with the Montana State Library to provide certification for local training sessions, i.e. federation workshops, local library meetings and training. 
Objective 2 Have evaluation forms distributed at non-MLA sponsored workshops

TIMELINE:  

July Submit budget request to the Executive Director. 
Send out committee membership list including addresses, email and telephone numbers to all Committee members

September Committee members review mission statement, goals and objectives for review and input 
Submit application form for 1st round of grants to be published in the next issue of FOCUS 
Attend Conference Planning Committee meeting to review program applications

November Submit both application forms for second round of grants to be published in the next issue of FOCUS 
Deadline for application of first round of grants

April MLA Conference in Kalispell

May Submit all MLA Conference grant report forms to Executive Director

June Deadline for submission of grant reimbursement

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Chairperson meets and communicates with the members of the Professional Development Committee as needed. Chairperson represents the Committee at meetings of the MLA Board and the Conference Planning Committee. Chairperson submits the new Committee budget to the MLA Board for approval. Chairperson submits information and deadlines about Committee grants to the MLA membership via Wired-Mt, FOCUS and other means. Chairperson collects grant applications and distributes copies to the other Committee members for their consideration and recommendations. Chairperson submits the Committee's recommendations for grant awards to the MLA Executive Board for its approval. Chairperson notifies grant recipients and the Executive Director. Chairperson checks with the Executive Director in June to make certain that all grant recipients have submitted receipt or reports and have been paid. Chairperson assigns duties to a Committee members as needed to accomplish the work of the Committee.
